Whatever Happened to Using the Blinker?
By Morning Producer Derek Schnell
Maybe it's just me, but as a truck slowly drifted into my lane and cut me off without a turn signal on the drive home, I thought to myself, 'whatever happened to using the blinker?
Then I started counting. At one stoplight, I counted a flashing signal on just one of five cars waiting to turn. And I think the problem is even worse with lane-changers. Zipping through traffic without a flasher might work if everyone is paying attention, but you have to expect at least a few drivers are eating a quick bite or facing some other distraction on the road. It isn't worth risking an accident because that lever next to the wheel is so tough to reach.
Then there's the awkward driver encounter. I'm sure you've ended up on the 'is he or is he not going to turn' standoff at least once. So what do you think? Are too many people forgetting about turn signals out on the road? Am I seeing-- or not seeing-- a blinking problem?

You are exactly correct about the blinker challenged. Another problem I have is the way that people seem to think it is still their turn even though the light is red. I see this everyday at an intersection by where I work. Yellow to these people means just one more person can get through and then it will turn red and literally everyday I see at least two people running these lights.
Makes me crazy.
