I know what Easter is all about.

I am a Christian, and have spent my whole life celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

But when I was little, it was not about Jesus, it was about the new Easter dress!!!

Yippee!!

I have two sisters and for years my mom would buy us matching dresses (which was cool until I turned about 8 years old); throw ribbons in our hair; and give us pure white socks with ruffles around the ankles to wear with our white patent leather Mary Janes.

We had to look just right for our Easter speech on Sunday morning.

I still remember my first speech...

In front of the church congregation...

"I just came to say...Happy Easter Day!"

I was maybe 6 at the time, the speeches got longer the older I got until eventually, I was in the Easter play!

Then after church, and dinner at Luby's or Furr's we could tear back the plastic on our Easter baskets and get a sugar high off jelly beans!!!

Now I am older, and understand the true meaning of Easter, and look forward to this Sunday, when I can listen to a new cute little kid, recite the age old Easter speech, "I just came to say, Happy Easter Day!"
