Too Many Camels

In the Dhofar Mountains in Oman, there is a rare forest... one that grows in the desert. The trees get water not from rain, but from low lying clouds. This cloud forest is endangered due to the explosion of the camel population. Camels are a sign of wealth and prestige in Oman, and as the wealth of the sultanate has increased, so have the number of camels. Scientists are now worried about deforestation due to over grazing by the camels. It is also feared that once the forest is gone, it will never return. The trees capture moisture from the clouds, and without them it is feared that the grasslands will not be able to capture enough moisture to allow new trees to grow.
