Blog Drought
Wow... it has been a while since I have blogged. This will be my first entry since last Tuesday. I have not been slacking, but during the snowstorm we started a "Storm Blog" with updates at least every hour during the duration of the storm. It was a great success, and we got some great feedback on this new feature. I hope we will continue it with the next big storm.
Today's blog topic is tsunami's in the Alps.
The Swiss government is starting to create procedures for a possible mini tsunami. A landlocked
nation in the Alps should not have to worry about tsunami's, but they are preparing for the possibility of large waves on their lakes. The worry comes from the melting of the permafrost on the peaks of the mountains, and the increased risk of large rocks falling into lakes. The waves from any rockslides could be a risk to lakeside resort town like St. Moritz, Saas Fee and Zermatt. Officials fear that rockslides into lakes creating giant waves could kill hundreds of people, and they are preparing just in case it does happen.
