Gone Fishin' at the...?
Posted by Adam SlingerHow would you explain the difference between a pond and a lake?
The dictionary defines 'lake' as a considerable size of water and a 'pond' as a body of water smaller than a lake.
The debate came up in our control room while I reported on a story regarding trout fishing. In Oklahoma City, trout are stocked in the lake/pond at Dolese Park.
The name on the park sign says Dolese Youth Park Pond. So, naturally I began calling it Dolese Pond, but after talking with others--people that have lived in the area for several years--many know it as Dolese Lake.
The Oklahoma City website refers to it as a lake on some pages and a pond on others. That, of course, only added to our confusion.
So, in the end, we played it safe: "Trout season ends today at Dolese Park."
We want to hear your thoughts, too. What other areas in Oklahoma have questionable names?
