Tierney's Weekly Top Ten

I want to dedicate my weekly Top 10 to Tony Dungy.

He is the first African-American Coach to win the SuperBowl.

So on the heels of the historic win and since it is Black History Month I want to highlight the major firsts for African Americans in Sports...



10. (2007) Tony Dungy becomes first African-American coach to win the Super Bowl.

9. (1947) Jackie Robinson becomes first African-American in major league baseball.

8. (1908) Jack Johnson becomes first African-American Heavyweight Champion.

7. (1953) Willie Thrower becomes first African-American NFL Quarterback.

6. (1957) Althea Gibson becomes first African-American to play and win Wimbledon.

5. (1988) Debi Thomas becomes first African-American to win an Olympic Medal in

figure skating.

4. (1997) Tiger Woods becomes first African-American to win the Masters.

3. (1875) African-American Oliver Lewis wins the first ever Kentucky Derby.

2. (1991) Willie T. Ribbs becomes first African-American to race in the Indy 500.

1. (1966) Bill Russell becomes first African-American head coach for an NBA Team.

GOOD CHOICE TO DEDICATE YOUR WEEKELY TOP TEN TO TONY DUNGY. HE IS A CLASS ACT. EVEN IF YOU DON'T LIVE IN INDIANAPOLIS, THIS TEAM HAS A LEADER THAT WE CAN ALL ROOT FOR. HIS LEADERSHIP ALSO SHOWS THROUGH IN HIS PLAYERS. REFRESHING.
