I was anxious to see how "The Big Donor Show" would turn out. Netherlands TV aired a show Friday where a terminally ill woman was going to give her kidney away to one of three needy contestants.

It turns out the competition was bogus. The woman donating her kidney was an actress (seen at right).

While the show was a hoax, the life or death situation for people hoping for a transplant is real. The three "contestants" all need kidneys and say they took part in the joke to raise awareness.

Thousands of people die each year, waiting for a donation. "The Big Donor Show" pushed the boundaries of reality tv... even if it was fake. Hopefully it inspired people to become donors, and make hope a reality for those needing a lifesaving surgery.
