Bear Down, Chicago Bears
Posted by: Executive Producer, Julie Fike
Way to go Chicago Bears! They crushed the St. Louis Rams last night 42-27. I will admit the first quarter made me nervous. I didn't feel as if we were settling down and playing "our game." Ya know, the morning hours come early and I was trying to wind down for sleep yet keep one eye on the game.
You might wonder how living in Oklahoma, I became a Bears fan. It started years ago in the town I was born and partially raised, Peoria, Illinois. I have an older brother, however, he was never a morning or even early afternoon person. It seems growing up he would get up from bed at 1pm. So, I would sit with my dad and we would talk about the game together. Our excitment would begin at 9:30am on game day.
The Bears spirit stayed with me through the years and countless moves through different southern states. Recently, I went to a Bears game with my friend Liz at Soldier Field. All I can say is that it was life-affirming.
Bring on the Bucs this Sunday!

I've only been to Soldier Field one time -- to see OU play Northwestern at the start of the 1997 season. That Sooners team was terrible, and we didn't even sniff the end zone.
However, it was a good excuse to go to Chicago, which frankly I don't need. That is a great, great city, and the whole Lakeshore Drive area along Lake Michigan rules ...
Now, I will say this: I was a bit underwhelmed by the hot dogs. I was expecting Chicago-style greatness. I've had better at high-school football games in Oklahoma.
