I'm Sorry Laura, but thanks for the forecast

When it rains I can't get my mind off that girl below. My baby sister Laura...
That may seem odd, but let me tell you why my thoughts are always with her when it rains.
When it rains I can't get my mind off that girl below. My baby sister Laura...
That may seem odd, but let me tell you why my thoughts are always with her when it rains. Picture it.
Sherman, Texas 1988
It's 4:30pm.
I just got out of choir practice at school, my mom's best friend Stephanie Bryant picks me up and we head to my sister Laura's piano practice.
We waited for 25 minutes I think.
I was starving, tired, and missing the once popular ABC After School Special.
Mrs. Bryant and I were waiting in her grey Astro van, hoping Laura would emerge from the building.
I am an impatient person, who was more than ready to go.
Then here she comes, Laura walks toward the van and gets in.
I go to close the door behind and her and hear a scream.
"OUCH!!!!"
Her hand had not cleared the door when I slammed it. I think I slammed it extra hard because I was ready to go.
Either way, I remember glancing down at her fingers and they were sliced in half, flesh and blood hanging off the bone.
I cried and apologized all the way to the hospital. She had to get stitches, a lot of them.
Since that day, my sister has been able to sense when it's going to rain.
Her fingers tingle and start to hurt before the rain starts.
So every time it rains I think of the forecasting ability she now has, thanks to that one day after piano practice.
Again Laura I'm Sorry!!!
