D-DAY Countdown

Posted by Tierney Cook

I believe I am overreacting.

Today we are continuing the countdown to D(decay)-Day.
I am having nightmares now about my root canal procedure scheduled for Friday.

In the dream,

I am in the dentists chair, awake.
Looking at my talented dentist and his staff that I love so much.
I opened my mouth and relaxed and let him do his work.
It was so peaceful in the beginning, then he couldn't get the tooth out.

So he says we are going to use pliers to squeeze the tooth, crush it and I will go back in and DIG OUT all the little pieces.

Out comes the pliers, they go around my tooth, and the doctor goes to work.
His leg is on the chair, he pulls and leans back with no luck. The tooth doesn't budge.
Then the hygienist comes behind him to help him crush the tooth, and DIG IT OUT.

Nothing is working. By this time my jaw is throbbing in pain from being open for so long, and my tooth is still stuck inside.

So the dentist says, we are going to pour acid on the tooth. It will dissolve enamel and clear the bacteria and tarter off the root, so I can go in and DIG OUT THE ROOT.

Dig is such a bone chilling word when talking about a visit to the dentist.

He pours the acid on my tooth, it eats away the enamel, root, gum line, and jaw.
Now I have a hole in my chin.
I wake up with my heart racing, and with major anxiety.
Although I know my dentist would never try those methods.
It is so strange that I am so concerned about this procedure.
