Live Coverage

Posted By Tierney Cook

We've got you covered.
In the mist of the snow we got this morning, we were live on the air for 5 hours straight, and streaming live on KOCO.COM

It's always interesting covering weather live on the air.
John and I must think on our feet, go unscripted and provide great information you need.

If you took a look behind the scenes we are always talking with producers, crews out in the field, the assignment desk and sometimes even viewers.

I have to say out of all the places I've worked, this is the most aggressive news station when it comes to news, weather and sports.

See you tomorrow.

A Mother's Touch

Posted By Tierney Cook

My mother came to visit while I was recovering from surgery.

She stayed an entire week and waited on me hand and foot, I learned a lot about my mother and myself and how much I have changed since I started living on my own. Especially my diet and grocery list.

Mom immediately came in and wanted to know, " Where is the..."
BACON?
SUGAR PACKED JUICE?
COFFEE?
CREAMER?
REAL BUTTER?
BOXES OF KLEENEX?
FABRIC SOFTENER?
CAKE PANS?

I admit, I grew up with all those things in the household. Somewhere along the way I let it go.
She was none to pleased.
I actually never think to buy a box of kleenex until I have a cold.
Mom didn't have a cold that week, I didn't either. I guess it was a "just in case buy."
Cake Pans? Really? I don't bake but when I requested my mom make her famous Italian Cream Cake, she couldn't because I didn't have cake pans.
I stopped using fabric softener when I was a broke college student, and still haven't picked the practice back up. I should, and I will add it to my grocery list next week. I had forgotten the sweet smell and softness it brings.
As for the food, bacon, juice, butter, coffee creamer--I don't eat any of that.

Needless to say, I now will sit and watch the bacon grow hair, the butter spoil, and the coffee and creamer collect dust.
Mommy had to have it, so she picked it up.
It was the least I could do, she did travel from Atlanta to take care of me.

As for the juice, it's gone. Every sweet sip. So much for the diet.

She's Back!

Posted by: Executive Producer, Julie Fike

Okay, well, almost back. We've gotten several calls and emails into the whereabouts of our beloved Tierney Cook. As you've read of the blog, she had a little medical issue and she'll be back Monday!

Let the confetti rain down from the heavens! She's been missed but we need her to recover so she can be with us. I know Tierney well enough to give a big thanks to everyone who was worried about her. I know when she gets back she'll be touched.

I talked with her yesterday and she's ready to come back. So tune in Monday at 5am to see her smiling face! Thanks again for watching and for caring. Julie

We're Working Hard

Posted by: Executive Producer, Julie Fike

We're working hard here on Eyewitness News 5 in the morning as we get ready for February. We're starting some exciting new segments with John and Tierney. I don't want to give too much away but they have come up with some interesting and intriguing stories for you.

As you've read, Tierney is recovering well. She's such a trooper and wants to come back to work but her body has other ideas. Get better girl. Don't worry about work, we all miss you but we want you to feel better.

On a side note, the NFL games were exicting this weekend but man, what a difference a year makes. Remember Tierney cheering for the Cowboys and I the Bears? Geez. We're both disappointed and looking forward to next year. Have a great week. Julie

Life Without My Gallbladder

Posted By Tierney Cook

It's been just about a week since I went under the knife.
I am recovering pretty well, there have been some surprises but I will spare you the disgusting digestive details.

It's amazing how much energy I have lost.
I went to organize my jewelry box on Saturday, and was soon out of breath and woozy, weird.
We all know I love to sleep but even I am ready to get out and hit the treadmill.

My mom spent the week with me, it was good. We bonded and I acted like a baby for a solid week.
It makes her feel more like a mother and me more like a daughter, that is what I would tell myself when I would send her downstairs for more juice!

HA!!!

I miss everyone and can't wait to get back to work!
I am doing well and will see you soon.

Dr. I am Ready for Surgery

Posted By Tierney Cook

You may have noticed me leaning over on air, or grasping my side, that is because my gallbladder is under attack.
I found out yesterday I have to have my gallbladder removed.
It's a day surgery that is apparently pretty common, but still a little scary.
This is my first surgery, my first i.v., my first anesthesia.
I'll be cut open sometime early next week, it's funny since I've been feeling ill, I have been giving the newsroom a lesson the digestive system and the work of the gallbladder.
It may be scary, but I am learning a lot; and now I just want my mommy.
If you've had the surgery or any other kind of surgery let me know, leave me a note on what to expect.

What Do You Want To Do?

Posted by: Executive Producer, Julie Fike

What do you want to see/experience before you die? It's an interesting thought and it's also the plot of the new movie, "The Bucket List."

It stars oscar winners, Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicholas. They both suffer from cancer and make out a list of what they want to do before they "kick the bucket."

Look on this page, you'll see Tierney has 15! Quite a list. John and Andy have a shorter yet challenging list. John....Wimbeldon....really, I didn't even know you played! It's fun to see other people's and it gets you thinking of your own.

As James Lane Allen, an American novelist, was once quoted....
"Dream lofty dreams, and as you dream, so you shall become. Your vision is the promise of what you shall one day be; your ideal is the prophecy of what you shall at last unveil."
