Cool Jobs

Posted by: Executive Producer, Julie Fike
I hope ya'll have enjoyed "It's Easy Being Green," week. The Eyewitness News 5 In The Morning crew has really enjoyed bringing you the original series.
I'll give you a little sneak peek into next week, it's called "Cool Jobs."
Now, most people think I've got a pretty cool job. Someone I recently met at the new BJ's restaurant near Quail Springs Mall actually remarked that my job must be exciting. I told him it was and at times, a little too exciting. I help write, arrange and I'm in charge of the morning show. It's never boring I can tell you! I think the coolest thing about my job is learning something new each day and while the show is going on, I'm wearing a headset and looking at a dozen TV's while the show is going on. It's kinda like NASA's mission control.
Next week, we won't have astronauts but some other pretty cool jobs and they are all right here in the OKC area and I think they are pretty exciting. How about an alligator trainer? Or maybe a motorcycle maker? We'll show you what it takes to have and get these cool jobs. We hope you'll tune in all next! Julie

My Smile Looks Better Now
Posted by Tierney Cook
D-(decay) Day has come and gone.
As you read in the previous post I had dental surgery on Friday.
But I soon found out instead of a root canal I needed a bridge.
The tooth still had to come out, and it still cost me a pretty penny.
I had to leave work early (9:00am) and head to the dentist.
After a two hour event of Novocaine, extraction, the blood curdling drill , and the suction thing the recovery process is underway.
I was prescribed a painkiller that does nothing but put me to sleep and a steroid that gave me a rash on my neck.
So I slept through most of Friday afternoon and night and was feeling better on Saturday.
It still throbs, and is sore of course, but it is not that bad.
My dentist suggested I not go to work today, but I am a trooper and showed up.
Thanks to everyone rooting for me during my dental ordeal, glad it's over.
Take it from me, floss. It makes all the difference.

D-DAY Countdown
Posted by Tierney Cook
I believe I am overreacting.
Today we are continuing the countdown to D(decay)-Day.
I am having nightmares now about my root canal procedure scheduled for Friday.
In the dream,
I am in the dentists chair, awake.
Looking at my talented dentist and his staff that I love so much.
I opened my mouth and relaxed and let him do his work.
It was so peaceful in the beginning, then he couldn't get the tooth out.
So he says we are going to use pliers to squeeze the tooth, crush it and I will go back in and DIG OUT all the little pieces.
Out comes the pliers, they go around my tooth, and the doctor goes to work.
His leg is on the chair, he pulls and leans back with no luck. The tooth doesn't budge.
Then the hygienist comes behind him to help him crush the tooth, and DIG IT OUT.
Nothing is working. By this time my jaw is throbbing in pain from being open for so long, and my tooth is still stuck inside.
So the dentist says, we are going to pour acid on the tooth. It will dissolve enamel and clear the bacteria and tarter off the root, so I can go in and DIG OUT THE ROOT.
Dig is such a bone chilling word when talking about a visit to the dentist.
He pours the acid on my tooth, it eats away the enamel, root, gum line, and jaw.
Now I have a hole in my chin.
I wake up with my heart racing, and with major anxiety.
Although I know my dentist would never try those methods.
It is so strange that I am so concerned about this procedure.

Sea of Red

Posted by: Executive Producer, Julie Fike
I know I'm in the land of Crimson and Creme but there was a Sea of Red Sunday afternoon.
As you can see by the pictures, it was the Central Oklahoma Chapter of Arkansas Alumni.
I know you Sooners and Cowboys can relate to being around a group of good people all of which have a common thread. It's especially meaningful when you are all a long way from home. Just like the "Cheers" theme song, everybody seems to know my name and they'll always glad I came. Case in point, the President, Maria caught one glimpse of me and instantly shouted out, "Julie!" It was such a nice feeling. Ya know us Hogs have a great set of lungs on us. Just in case you are wondering, yes, we "Call The Hogs" at the beginning and end of each meeting.
In the pictures you may have also noticed, we did pass along the infamous Hog Hat to draw for door prizes. Again, to an outsider it might seen all strange, but to me and other Hogs in Sooner/Cowboy country, it's a little bit of home. Thanks to everyone who put on the Pignic at Tinker Air Force Base.
Countdown to Root Canal

Posted by Tierney Cook
Last week I found out I have to have root canal.
I am scared out of my mind.
Just the idea of a root canal makes me nervous.
We are counting down, D-(for decay) Day is this Friday.
My dentist has informed me it is not a big deal, and it will only take 2 hours.
My co-anchors John and Rusty have both been under the drill and had a root canal.
I am doing my normal thing and googling "root canal" to get some background information...
in the process I am having anxiety attacks.
If you've had a root canal, please write in and let me know what you think!!

Love The B-day Wish
Posted by: Executive Producer, Julie Fike
This is a public thank you note to my crew. Thanks guys for making me feel special on my birthday! Tierney, the cake was yummy. Rusty, I know you are still somewhat new, move quicker when there's cake in the building to get a piece. Zach thanks for the Seasme Street flashback. (I just love that pinball song where they sing to 12, don't ask me why)
Many friends have texted (is that an official word yet?) me special wishes. Thank you. I know many of you are spreadout throughout the country so it's nice that you remembered.
I know some dread their birthdays, especially when over age 30 (like me) but I love them. I wouldn't want to go back to my 20's for anything. I received a very lovely bouquet of purple flowers (my favorite) from a dear friend. Sometimes it can be unnerving, but it's also very nice in times like this that my friends know me so well. My parents got me two great gifts but besides the gifts I love blowing out the candles.
I've never kept track of my wish record, if the majority come true. However, I'm the ever-hopeful optimist and I'd like to think most of them have come true. Of course there's no way I can tell you what I wished for this year.

Stay Tuned
Posted by: Executive Producer, Julie Fike
It's no secret we love our jobs and enjoy working with each other. A prime example of that was the other day when I was shooting a story with Tierney. Some insider information, Tierney really is the same off and on the set. She's a joy to work with and every once in a while (read: most days) sassy. It makes a hard working day easier with some lighter mood moments.
I digress. So, Tierney and I along with about 4 other people were working on a story for next week. It's about OHP and their tracking dogs. Again, it's no secret, Tierney and I love dogs. You know I have Buddy. Needless to say, she and I really enjoyed this assignment.
In the process of doing this story, which will air next week - stay tuned, we learned that these dogs aren't your friendly Lassie type dogs. They are highly trained coon dogs that hunt down suspects. Let's just say, in our story, Tierney plays the suspect.
I can't wait for you all to see it! Can't you tell, I'm so excited! Tierney is a great sport to let me put her through this to demonstrate to you all how crucial these dogs are to keep Oklahomans safe. I've attached a picture of our outing of the dogs. Watch next week to see the hard work of Trooper Hobbs, Rooster, Girlie, Susie and Belle.

T.V. vs. Radio! Everyone Wins!!!
Posted By Tierney Cook
As you saw in the post my EP Julie wrote, we did beat the radio team in the celebrity flag football game this past weekend.
Well the results are in and we've learned how much we earned for the Oklahoma Brain Tumor Foundation. We raised more than $1,700 for Oklahoma brain tumor families.
The money will go toward providing financial help for families affected by brain tumors.
This organization is very important to me because as you know my mom is a 10 year survivor.
I have been in their position and the help and support was great!
Thanks for all the people who donated and supported us at the game!
GO TEAM!!

I'm Open, I'm Open
Posted by: Executive Producer, Julie Fike
I'm sure you'll see other posts by John, Tierney and Adam but they are busy and I have a few minutes to catch you up on our flag football game.
I'm sure you saw some of the pictures on the morning show Monday but here's some more with the back story. Okay, so, I was a little late to the game (TV versus Radio personalities) because I was a last minute sub for Rusty. He was called into work to watch those stubborn storms that won't get out of the state. Hence, the "McCraine" jersey. I hope I did him proud.
Now, I won't mention who the quarterback was but I will say, he didn't pass to the girls. Hello! We can play. Tierney and I are athletic. I mean how many times do I blog about the Bears? Anyway, we were always open and never got handed or passed the ball.
But I got mine in the end, last play of the game, hail Mary by the radio folks and I batted down the ball! Yeah me! Yeah my team! See other pics for the wounds suffered my John and Adam.
