John Flick...In His Jammies...Uncensored.
I spend hours upon hours each week with this man, and recently I learned something new about my co-anchor John Flick.
He's a snorer. One day on the set he started complaining about how bad he snores.
Apparently he's been snoring all his life, and he has a history of sleep disorders in his family.
I decided to take a closer look and do some investigative reporting.
I sent John to Mercy's Sleep Clinic for a sleep study.
Tomorrow night at 5 on Eyewitness News 5, we've got surveillance video of John snoring and sleeping, plus the results of his sleep test.
He may suffer from a disease thousands of Oklahomans deal with every night.
We have a high rate of sleep apnea in our state, higher than other parts of the country because of our obesity rate.
John's test results plus the symptoms for sleep apnea, that's Friday night on Eyewitness News 5 at 5.
Plus John in his jammies, if you like that.
Tonight's the Night Blazer Fans
I'm in a dream world lately, the sports in OKC is at fever pitch.
It's go-time right now for the OKC Blazers. Tonight they play in Loveland, Colorado for Game 7 in the CHL playoffs. Monday night, me and a couple of friends were right behind the Blazers bench in the Ford Center. It was awesome to see all the fans wearing white. Creating a "whiteout" for the Eagles.
All the show of support must have worked. The Blazers came out with a fury. Taking shots to the goal for the first period without scoring. Finally, in the 2nd period, a goal! In all the Blazers shut out the Eagles 3-0.
Everybody in the Ford Center was giving each other high 5's. Although they are out of town, we'll all be with the guys in spirit hoping they advance to the semifinals.
Just What The EP Ordered
After a week of high emotion, from the VA Tech Massacre to the OKC Memorial, a night of baseball is just what I needed.
Although the OKC Redhawks lost to the Nashville Sound, for me, it didn't matter. Friday night the weather was beautiful, out in the elements, in the middle of a OKC crowd in good spirits, a good friend next to me and the Redhawks showing their talent. A few things could beat that.
We were right behind home plate trying to guess the speed of the ball before it was displayed on the big scoreboard. My friend kept me laughing throughout the game although I can report that I didn't bother any of the players or coaches. (see blog "Bring on the Boys of Summer")
The Redhawks are on the road for a couple of games but will be back home Thursday night against the New Orleans Zephyrs. See you behind home plate! Julie
The Smile
I hope you've met someone like this in your life. Someone who remains positive despite adversity... someone who doesn't have to say a word but inspires others to do great things (or at least try).
I pulled up to Camden Looper's house in Moore this week and there he was in the doorway with a big smile.
Camden is 3-years old and was diagnosed with Leukemia last year. He's gone through 8 full body radiation treatments and a stem cell transplant. He lost weight and his hair, but he's never lost that smile. He's in remission but as his mom says the future is always uncertain.
Camden is so young, but has that calming look in his eyes that assures you everything is going to be ok. You can't help but smile.
This year I'm running in the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon for Camden and others who have blood cancer. I'm part of "Team In Training" to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. We're running and raising money. If you'd like to donate please go to http://www.active.com/donate/tntok/tntokJFlick1
And remember to smile.
Finally! Play Ball!
Finally! Tonight is the night!
I see the OKC Redhawks in action. I didn't make opening night a week ago because it was rainy and quite frankly I was exhausted from our extended morning coverage. The hail video that Adam and Dan caught was awesome though.
So tonight, I'll see the boys of summer. They've struggled a bit. The Redhawks are taking on the Nashville Sound. So far, the Sound has beaten the Redhawks twice in the past week. It's now time to settle the score.
General admission for the game is $6. Think about how cheap that is. You can't even go to a movie on a Friday night for that kind of price. See you there. Julie
12 Years Later
Posted by: Adam SlingerThis is my first April 19th in Oklahoma City, but like every American, I've felt a connection.
I was one of the first reporters at the National Memorial this morning. Even before dawn, people were walking by, laying flowers, paying tribute to those who lost their lives twelve years ago today.
On April 19, 1995, Timothy McVeigh parked a truck filled with explosives in front of the Alfred P. Murrah building in downtown Oklahoma City. The bomb went off at 9:02am, ultimately killing 168 people. Another 850 people were injured. The destruction forced 462 people out of their homes. (An entire apartment complex had to be abandoned.) Heroically, more than 12,000 rescuers and volunteers came to assist in whatever way they could.
I've seen the memorial ceremonies over the years on television, but it's hard to grasp just how emotional these moments can be thru a TV screen. Being there changes one's perspective...
The first two patrons I saw stopped by just before 6:00am. They only stayed for about ten minutes, but even from the other side of the reflecting pond, it was easy to share in their grief. They were two women: a mother and a daughter. The two were hovering around one memorial chair, paying their respects to a man who died; to them, that man was a son and a brother. Twelve years after his death, the older woman still couldn't talk about it or him... At least not today.
Throughout the day, Eyewitness News 5 will have team coverage of the Ceremony on Sacred Soil. We'll honor the victims, praise the heroes and remember what happened downtown on that tragic spring morning.

I Went Outside Yesterday...
My blog topic may not seem like much to you, but for me it's huge.
I do not go outside.
I don't like it.
I am phobic when it comes to bugs (when I was little I was riding my bike and swallowed a fly).
I don't care for grass (The smell makes me nauseous and I have awful allergies).
I prefer indoor activities (while you were little you probably spent the day playing outside, my sisters and I would produce plays, music videos and movies during the day then play and perform them for my parents when they got home).
But yesterday after the clouds passed and the sun came out, I felt moved to venture outside
It was time to workout and instead of heading to the gym, I decided to run or briskly walk through my neighborhood.
I laced up my shoes, put on my shades grabbed my keys and headed out.
2 minutes later I came to my senses and drove to the gym.

"Lost in Love"
After the first episode, I asked myself, "How can the story go for more than about two seasons?", to now thinking, "How can it end before six seasons, or maybe seven, or never ending!"
Just like life, its roots come down to stories about people. Sure the smoke monster and The Dharma Initiative and the hatch with the computer is neat, but if Jack, Kate, Sawyer and the rest of the survivors of Oceanic flight 815 weren't so real, so layered, the show would have already been cancelled.
I think the most intriguing character on the island is Locke. Especially now that he is with "The Others". Just what did he see way back in Season One when Smokey paid him a visit? It obviously impacted him greatly.
I'll say, I've been going back and watching Season One the past few weeks (While I don't have much free time, I also don't have cable in my new home yet). I pick up on new things every time I rewatch an episode. I say "bunk" to those that think the producers are making it up as they go.
I think much will be revealed to the ultimate mystery of the island by the end of this season. For those of us who have stuck with the show (me and Tierney), it will be a great payoff and another layer of the onion we can watch being peeled back. For those who may have left, frustrated over the lack of answers (John), now is a great time to get Lost again.

I hate it more than math
It's that time of year where everything is in bloom. I love seeing the buds on the trees and flowers coming out of winter hibernation. But there's one thing I cannot stand. I hate it more than math and I really, really hate math. It's cutting my grass.
I don't have that big of a yard but still it takes about 40 minutes to mow. I thank God I finally have discovered the trick to starting my pull mower. It takes 6 squirts of gas for it to start up on the first pull. I discovered that about 3 weeks ago. That is the silver lining in the whole process.
I used to pull and pull my guts out. Sometimes for more than a half hour before it would start.
Again, Buddy would just look at me like I'm the most imcompetent owner he'd ever seen. (See previous post, "Dog must think we're crazy")
The recent rains are a great story for Oklahoma and it being in a drought. But not so good for homeowners everywhere who hate to mow. The recent rain means my grass is loving it and growing to compete with the Amazon Jungle. So, you all know what Buddy and I are going to be doing today. Yep, the thing I hate more than math.
Julie
I'm Sorry Laura, but thanks for the forecast
When it rains I can't get my mind off that girl below. My baby sister Laura...
That may seem odd, but let me tell you why my thoughts are always with her when it rains. Dogs Must Think We're Crazy

I have a new addiction...
As you know if you watch the show, I don't go outside much.
I spend my time volunteering and watching television.
My latest t.v. addiction is, Planet Earth on the Discovery Channel.
It is the best thing on television right now.
I was bragging about the show recently when someone told me Oprah is a fan as well.
It's up close, dramatic, riveting, sad and beautiful all at the same time.
So far my favorite episode has been the shallow seas episode.
In it is the much talked about shark attack sequence.
In it, somewhere (I cannot remember where) there is a small stretch of water that seals pass through to get to food.
So it shows cute grey seals swimming for their lives, because that small strip of water is full of you guessed it....GREAT WHITE SHARKS!!!
You are cheering for the seals to make it through the dangerous water!!!!
And just when you think they have made it...out of the water jumps a great white shark and eats up the seal.
I was devastated, I cheered for the seal, but while I was devastated I was amazed by the shot the photographer was able to catch.
The actual attack lasts a second, but it is slowed down two where it lasts more than 30 seconds.
You see the sharks grimacing teeth, the seal's death, and the millions of water drops surrounding the deadly dance.
It is an amazing show, that comes on every Sunday night on the Discovery Channel.
Check it out and let me know what you think!
I just came to say Happy Easter Day!

Bring on The Boys of Summer
It's just a little over a week until the boys of summer play at the Bricktown Ballpark. I, for one, can't wait. I know the Blazers are still gutting it out in the playoffs but I'm ready for the outside air, green grass and line drives.
I promise for all of those who sit along the first baseline, I'll try and contain my excitement this year. Last year I was...shall we say...a little distracting for some.
As my friend Brent loves to point out, he's never seen anything like it before and he should know...he played baseball into college. I don't even remember the joke but he said something funny, I laughed and even the first base coach noticed. Unknown to me, the coach heard, turned around and said to us, "she's having a good time."
I got so embarassed! If you can tell from this blog, that doesn't happen very often to me.
I hid my face and told everyone around me sorry, especially Brent. In true fashion he said it was awesome that I got the attention of the coach. So, of course, that made me laugh even louder.
The coach turned around AGAIN and said, "wherever you guys are going after the game, I want to be invited."
I don't know if Brent will take me to another baseball game or even sit next to me but Redhawks I'll be there, laughing ever so quietly along the first baseline.
